District Attorney Andy Hamlin Backs Jay Mitchell for Attorney General

BIRMINGHAM, AL— District Attorney Andy Hamlin today announced his endorsement of Jay Mitchell in the Republican runoff for Alabama Attorney General, adding another prominent prosecutor to Mitchell's coalition of law enforcement leaders.

Hamlin serves as District Attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit that covers Pickens, Lamar, and Fayette counties. Appointed by Governor Kay Ivey in November 2018, he previously served for more than 12 years as an Assistant District Attorney and Chief Assistant District Attorney under his predecessor, Alabama Supreme Court Justice Chris McCool. Hamlin is known for his dedication to serving victims and steadfast support for law enforcement.

"Jay Mitchell has the courtroom experience and strength of character that the office demands," said Hamlin. "I've watched him in action, and I know him to be a leader who will do what’s right for the state—no matter the cost. Alabama needs an Attorney General who has the legal skill and drive necessary to make Alabama the safest state in the country, which is why I am proud to endorse Jay Mitchell in this race."

Mitchell expressed gratitude for the endorsement, stating: "Andy Hamlin is a respected veteran prosecutor who understands what it takes to deliver justice for Alabama families. I am grateful for his support and wise counsel, and I'm honored to have another proven law enforcement leader standing with us."

Hamlin’s endorsement follows a landmark endorsement from former AG candidate and Blount County DA Pam Casey and marks Mitchell's growing momentum among Alabama prosecutors.

The runoff election is on June 16.
