Background & Experience
Jay was born in Mobile and raised in the Wiregrass and Homewood. He attended Birmingham-Southern College, where he played on the 1995 National Championship basketball team and served as student body President. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Jay began his career as a courtroom lawyer and quickly earned national recognition for his excellence in trial work.
He was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2018, where he spent nearly seven years resolving the state's toughest civil and criminal cases with ironclad conservative opinions.

Faith & Family
He and his wife Elizabeth have been married for 24 years, and they live in Homewood with their four kids. They are longtime members of Church of the Highlands.
Jay believes that faith is the foundation of strong families and strong communities. He knows that the values we teach our children today will shape Alabama's future tomorrow.
From Alabama's Highest Court to Top Law Enforcement Office
First elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2018, Jay built a reputation for ironclad conservative opinions that protect life, liberty, and the Constitution. Now he's ready to continue that mission in the Attorney General's Office. Known as a judge criminals loved to hate, Jay is ready to take on the problem of violent crime head-on. He'll hold criminals accountable, deport illegals, and root out public corruption.
