Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd Announces Support for Jay Mitchell in Alabama Attorney General Race

BIRMINGHAM, AL—Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd today announced his endorsement of Jay Mitchell for Attorney General.

Sheriff Byrd’s family has called Coffee County home for generations, and he has built his 26 year career in law enforcement on the belief that every Alabamian deserves to feel safe in their homes, schools, and houses of worship. Guided by his personal motto, “My word is my bond,” Byrd said he sees that same commitment to integrity and service in Jay Mitchell.

Jay Mitchell means what he says. His record shows that he’s the kind of leader who will not look the other direction when the going gets tough. He will always back the blue, and he won’t rest until all Alabamians feel safe in their homes, schools, and houses of worship. I trust Jay to stand by his word and support those who enforce the law—in Coffee County and across the state,” said Sheriff Byrd.

Mitchell has strong roots in the Wiregrass and spent several years growing up in Coffee County, living in Enterprise, Jack, and New Brockton. In addition, he spent time visiting again as an adult while his brother trained as a helicopter pilot at Fort Rucker. Mitchell thanked Sheriff Byrd for his service, noting how special it is to receive support from law enforcement in Coffee County.

Sheriff Byrd is the kind of public servant who reminds you why this job matters,” said Mitchell. “He leads with integrity, stands by his deputies, and works every day to make sure his neighbors feel safe as they go about their daily lives. I’m proud to have his endorsement and grateful for the example he sets.

Sheriff Byrd’s endorsement adds to a growing coalition of law enforcement leaders across Alabama who trust Jay Mitchell to fight crime and back the blue. Mitchell’s campaign will continue to roll out earned law enforcement endorsements in the coming days and weeks.
