Jay has a long history of involvement in the Republican Party and the conservative movement in Alabama, including service as election counsel to Republican candidates, service on the executive committee of the Alabama Republican Party, and as a founder of the Red Mountain Republicans. He is a member of the Federalist Society.
Jay is a partner with Maynard, Cooper & Gale in Birmingham. He has successfully handled numerous cases at both the trial and appellate levels. He is recognized as one of the top attorneys in the United States and Alabama, and has received the highest possible rating for professional ethics.
Jay is active in organizations that help children from low-income families through conservative solutions. He serves on the Board of Directors of Cornerstone School, an inner city Christian school. He has also long been involved with the Birmingham Athletic Partnership, which partners with local businesses to provide resources and athletic equipment to inner city public schools.
Jay grew up in South Alabama and in Homewood. He graduated from Homewood High School and received his B.A. with honors from Birmingham-Southern College, where he played forward on the school’s 1995 national championship basketball team. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Jay and his wife, Elizabeth, are longtime members of Church of the Highlands. They reside in Homewood with their four children.
